About me

I began sewing as a child when I would design and sew clothes for my Barbie dolls.  By age 10 I was making clothes for myself and my family.

When it was time to decide on a college major I had no hesitation in choosing Apparel Technology at Purdue University where I received a bachelor’s degree.

Purdue had a visiting student program to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where I received an associate’s degree in Fashion Design and graduated Magna Cum Laude!

After I had children I had a home sewing business. I designed and made wedding dresses and other custom clothing.  When my children were in school, I started a volunteer art program and began subbing. I decided to go back to school to get a master’s degree in education, and after that, I taught elementary school for 18 years.

Through it all, I was making quilts!  Once I retired, I bought a longarm machine and started Quilting By Betsy.  With support from my family and my wonderful husband, Kent, I’m loving my new career!

With my love for fabric, colors, sewing, and geometry (it’s a teacher thing) quilting is my passion and you can be sure that your quilt is in loving, caring hands.
